Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to nanoparticles with hydrophobic and oleophobic Properties as well as their manufacture and use.
.For some time now, nanoparticles have been particularly scientific and economic interest, since they have special properties that they for many different applications and areas of application as applicable lets appear. Examples of this are hard coatings to protect softer ones Surfaces, dirt-repellent coatings or coatings that a Prevent fogging of glass surfaces and the like.
In order to give surfaces hydrophobic properties from the prior art Technology known a number of ways. Here is to achieve long-term stable, UV-resistant as well as oil and water repellent surfaces of the Use of fluorinated compounds and especially perfluorinated Connections practically indispensable. The largest number of industrial Applications are covered by polyfluorethylene. The best known The product among these is the DuPont brand "TEFLON" Polytetrafluoroethylene. Basically, the polyfluoroethylenes are Waste products from space research. However, they are widely used as non-stick or water-repellent coatings, e.g. B. for pans, textiles, in Electronics, in medical technology, as mold release or mold release agents in industry or in research.
Owing to their absolutely desired surface properties, these have fluorinated and perfluorinated compounds or polymers often only slight or poor adhesive properties. This is a permanent application to reach different substrates only with increased effort or only with difficulty. Further disadvantages of these connections are their lack of transparency and in its uneconomically high price for many applications. Furthermore, they are for many Applications of insufficient hardness. This is from the domestic area generally known from pans and pots coated with polyfluoroethylene. Their non-stick coating scratches easily, which in the uselessness of the Cookware results.
Another way to make surfaces hydrophobic is through the Given silane chemistry. The surface-active effect has been in effect since the early 1960s known from silanes with fluorinated side chains. Such fluorosilanes meanwhile used to surface glass and ceramic substrates fluoridate. These fluorosilanes have also been found in more recent times than several Layers with molecular layers on sanitary ware and for Concrete block water repellent application, the overall good Highlight dirt-repellent effect and the transparency of these fluorosilanes are.
However, it is disadvantageous that these layers have only a few molecular layers often show insufficient chemical resistance and abrasion resistance. There is also a problem due to the lack of surface hydrophobicity that by the influence of the substrate through the layer having only a few molecular layers is caused. This influence means that the fluorinated side chains each for medium on the surface and surface energy of the substrate for Show substrate and can not be aligned on the surface. hereby the desired effect of the coating is lost, d. H. it either kicks not or only to a small extent.
Ebenso können die organischen Substituenten, wenn sie polymerisierbare Gruppen enthalten, organische Polymereinheiten bilden, die direkt an das anorganische Netzwerk gebunden sind.EP 0 587 667 B1 describes coatings or Coating compositions known in which the fluorinated silanes are not exist in layers of a few molecular layers on the substrate surfaces, but in layers of several µm. The synthesis of the disclosed Coatings are carried out using a sol-gel process. This is it controlled hydrolysis and condensation of alkoxides or halides of silicon, titanium, zirconium, aluminum, etc. corresponding derivatization of the alkoxides targeted organic substituents introduce. This allows the inorganic network to be modified. Likewise, the organic substituents, if they have polymerizable groups contain, form organic polymer units that directly to the inorganic Network.
The incorporation of alkoxysilanes with perfluorinated side groups makes it possible to obtain materials in which the perfluorinated groups are enriched at the coating / air interface during the curing process. As a result, hydrophobic and oleophobic properties or free surface energies of 18 to 20 mJ / m 2 are achieved on the surface. In comparison, PTFE has a free surface energy of approx. 20 mJ / m 2 . At the same time, an extremely low concentration of perfluorinated side chains is maintained at the coating / substrate interface. As a result, the very good adhesion of the transparent composite materials on most substrates, such as. B. metals, glass and polymers, etc., maintained. Such so-called gradient materials can by conventional coating methods such. B. spraying, dipping, flooding, spinning, etc., can be applied to appropriate substrates.
Although such gradient materials already have improved properties with regard to their adhesion to different substrates the disadvantage that the actual active layer due to the gradient formation only a few molecular layers is thick, although not necessarily a substrate influence on the Surface, but an influence of the silane matrix. It has further shown that especially with chemical and mechanical stress the fluorinated surfaces of these layers, which are only a few molecular layers thick can be removed quickly, causing the surfaces to lose their effectiveness and the Surface hydrophobia suffers or no longer exists.

According to the invention, the nanoparticles have substituents that are in the range from 5 to 100% by weight of variable proportion of perfluorinated carbon chains exhibit. As a result, nanoparticles are available to the person skilled in the art, each a defined one with regard to their hydrophobic and oleophobic properties Show behavior according to the chosen proportion of the different Substituents. Furthermore, an inexpensive manufacture of the invention Enables nanoparticles.
In a preferred embodiment, 0 to 95% by weight of the substituents are from Hydrocarbon chains formed, the hydrocarbon chains and / or the perfluorinated carbon chains preferably have 1 to 30 carbon atoms and particularly preferably 3 to 20 carbon atoms. The substituents can also be branched or have cyclic structural elements.
In a particularly preferred development of the invention Nanoparticles have the substituents, i.e. H. the hydrocarbon chains and / or the perfluorinated carbon chains have functional groups. The one out of this resulting special advantage is the possibility of hydrocarbon chains and / or the perfluorinated carbon chains via these functional groups implement. The nanoparticles or the substituents can, for. B. networked or react with substrate surfaces. The specialist is the functional groups according to their desired reactivity are common and to select the intended reactants, thereby controlling whether a reaction of these functional groups, for example in the preparation of the Nanoparticles occur or only when they are processed.
B. Ormocere. It is also possible that the nanoparticles via the functional groups of the Substituents in the application with the surrounding medium or in it contained substances or compounds react, such Reaction practically exclusively from the functional groups and the medium or substances or compounds contained therein and is determined. The medium is very variable and preferably consists of Water, alcohols, organic resins or mixtures thereof and contains optional inorganic structures, such as B. water glass, glass-like sol-gel systems or inorganic-organic structures such as. B. Ormocere.
Examples of such functional groups are double bonds, amine groups, Epoxy groups, methacrylic groups, hydroxy groups, carbonyl groups and Halogens. One of the substituents can be hydrocarbon or perfluorinated carbon also carry several different functional groups.
In principle, the substituents mentioned can also be other than that indicated functional groups, as long as their reactivity and their chemical properties do not adversely affect the properties of the finished Impact nanoparticles.
The nanoparticles can generally be based on any and with any Hydrocarbon chains and / or perfluorinated carbon chains substitutable Matrix be formed. These matrices are preferred of inorganic structures based on Si, Al, B, Pb, Sn, Ti, Zr, V and Zn, in particular from Silane structures and / or siloxane structures. Examples of such matrices or Starting compounds for these are known to the expert and z. B. in EP 0 587 667 described. Alternatively, polymerizable organic monomers can be used corresponding functional groups, the matrix of the invention Form nanoparticles. According to the invention, it is particularly preferred if the The proportion of the matrix in the total mass of the nanoparticles is up to 85% by weight. If the matrix portion of the total mass of the nanoparticles exceeds this value increased, this has a slightly disadvantageous effect on the properties of the same, because of the the effect exerted by the substituents becomes too small and compared with that by the Matrix effects properties resigns.
The nanoparticles according to the invention preferably have a size in the range of 2 to 300 nm, more preferably from 15 to 200 nm, and most preferred from 30 to 160 nm.
The present invention further relates to a method for applying the nanoparticles according to the invention on a substrate, the nanoparticles in one Solvents are dispersed and the dispersion obtained on a substrate applied and then dried.
The particular advantage of this method is that very simple and thus inexpensive surfaces are available that z. B. Repel dirt or at least make it more difficult for deposits to adhere, are transparent and show great resistance to moisture. Furthermore, these show Coatings have good adhesion to the substrate.
So z. B. Si-OH-Gruppen.The solvent used to disperse the nanoparticles is preferred from water, alcohols, organic resins or from mixtures of these. The solvent can be selected by an appropriate choice Properties of the coating to be produced are particularly advantageous in an advantageous manner vary well and varied by determining whether and how through the solvent the nanoparticles contained in the dispersion change during application and during of drying. This allows certain reactions to be preferred. So z. B. a connection to the substrate, a crosslinking of the nanoparticles with each other and / or a crosslinking of the nanoparticles with the solvent. The reactive centers of the nanoparticles can be the functional groups of the Be substituents or functional groups present on the matrices, such as. B. Si-OH groups.
Additional substances are optionally contained in the solvent. With these Substances are preferably inorganic structures such as water glass, inorganic-organic structures such as Ormocere and / or Nanomere, likewise can react with the nanoparticles according to the invention and so that Can further enlarge the spectrum of available surface properties.
Dispersing aids can in particular also be added to the solvent are, which are preferably surfactants. This will make the Dispersion of the nanoparticles and the stability of the dispersion improves what is has a particularly advantageous effect on the uniformity of the coating.
Other auxiliaries can also be added to the solvent. at These auxiliaries are generally matting agents, dyes or colorants, anti-fouling agents, anti-static agents, anti-fogging agents and / or agents to adjust the dispersion, the viscosity of the dispersion.
The application or application of the nanoparticles to the respective substrate is preferably carried out by a wet process, such as. B. spraying, pouring, flooding, Diving or skidding. The specialist will do this for the circumstances and for the particular substrate best suited method of applying the Choose nanoparticles.
Drying generally takes place in a temperature range from room temperature up to about 350 ° C for a period of one second to several hours and is usually done in a forced air oven or by UV, IR, electron or Microwave radiation. By choosing the appropriate drying conditions the behavior of the nanoparticles and thus the influence the resulting surface properties of the coating. In particular, it is possible to control how the nanoparticles according to the invention can be controlled with the Substrate, react with each other and / or with the surrounding medium.
A large number of materials are advantageously used as the substrate. Substrates made of ceramic, wood, metal, stone, plastic and / or concrete are preferred and surfaces can be coated that are as different as for example ceramic tiles, glass surfaces, house fronts or Sanitary facilities made of ceramics, stone or metal, to name just a few call. It is also of particular advantage that, for. B. substrates with Surface structures in the order of 80 nm to 100 µm with the nanoparticles of the invention can be coated particularly well, wherein after coating surfaces are available that have a surface roughness have in particular from smooth to 100 microns.
A multiple application of the invention is also advantageous Nanoparticles possible on a substrate. The drying step can be between two application processes are completely eliminated or only partially carried out become. In particular, when applying the nanoparticles according to the invention at least two different dispersions used, d. H. Dispersions that differ in their composition with regard to contained additional substances and / or the composition or the Differentiate structure of the nanoparticles. In general, such is done Embodiment of the method in the first application step sealing the Substrate by closing the pores of the substrate and in the or subsequent application step (s) the main hydrophobization of the same thing get particularly well through z. B. a variation of the fluorine and / or silane content of Nanomers can cause. The possible variations in drying between the individual application steps enable a particularly good combination Adherence of the individual application layers or layers.

The present invention thus provides nanoparticles that are simple and can be processed economically and a coating of allows a wide variety of substrates. The particular advantage of the invention lies thereby in the fact that no gradient material or a monolayer is produced is known as from the prior art, but nanoparticles that over contained functional groups can network with each other or can bind to the substrate, for example, via a silane component. Furthermore point the nanoparticles but also sufficient hydrophobic substituents, in particular perfluorinated side groups, which exclude a matrix or substrate influence or at least minimize, while at the same time being particularly durable and moisture resistance of the coating and the coated Substrate is given. It should be emphasized that a very large Possibility of variation in the combination of functional groups and fluorinated Substituents a wide range of applications with regard to the to be coated Substrates and the available surface properties of the coated Substrates is given by the invention.
