LATI-l.
SlDECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No.1311,666, dated February 3, 1885..
Applicatil n filed Deeelnl er 13, ISI-4. (No model.)
T0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J AMEs MORRISON, J r., of New York, in the count-y oi' New York and Stat-e of New York, have invented a new and Improved Lath, of which the following is a i'ull, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to an improved web of lath, and it consists, principally, in attaching lat-h to a exible backing, to facilitate the application ofthe lath to thejoists of the building, and also to Vcause tbe plaster to key closely to the lath, thereby effecting a saving in mortar and producing a better and firmer wall.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part ot'this speciticatiomin which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the iigures.
Figure l is a front elevation of my invention, part of the lath being covered with plaster. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation of the same, taken on the line x .fr of Fig. l.
A represents the backing, and B the lath. The backing A is bypreferenee iiexible, so that the lath may be rolled into bundles to facilitate handling, and the backing A is by preference composed of larred paper or felt. The lathAstieks B are secured across the baeking A parallel with each other, and are by preference secured to the backing by means of tar or other adhesiye material. The edges ofthelatlrsticksBi-e beveled, as shown at u, so Vas to form a kind ot' dovetail for the key7 of the plaster C, as shown clearly in Fig. 2, thus causing the plaster to adhere to the lath with great firmness. The latli, being attached to the backing A, can be applied to the joists and nailed with great rapidity, and the backing, besides serving to prevent the plaster, when applied, from passing` back ofthe lath, also serves asa good "deafening7 for the wall, and it causes the plaster to key both with the upper and the lower lath, as shown in Fig. 2, so that the wall is thus made very rm with the minimum quantity of plaster.
Having thus described my invention, whatI claim as new, and desire'to secure by Lett-ers Patent, is-
1. As a new article of manufacture, a web of lath composed of the backing A and lathsticks B, secured to the backing, substantially as described.
2. The latlr-stieks B, secured to the backing A, and beveled at their edges, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
JAMES MORRISON, JR.
