down with the greatest possible ease, the connection between the bracket and the supporting base or rail being such that the bracket may be readily detached, removed or replaced or adjusted up and down without the aid of tools or special fittings A further object of the invention is to provide a: bracket which may be stamped out of sheet metal and easily bent 'or fashioned by means of dies into final shape, the result being a light, strong and perfectly reliable and safe bracket.
With the above and other objects in view, the nators of which will more fullyappear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in the novel construe.- tion, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter fully described, illustrated and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the bracket. Fig. 1"- is a similar, view of thesupporting base or rail. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section through the bracket and rail, showing the connection between said parts. Fig. 3 is a rear elevation of a portion of the supporting rail or base. Fig. 4 is a front elevation of the same, showing thebracket in cross-section, the section being taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a rear or inner end elevation oi the bracket. Fig. 5 is a horizontal cross-section through the supporting base or rail. Fig. 7 is a perspective view of a bracketol slightly modified form, showing also the supporting rail or base. Fig. 8 is a vertical longitudinal section through the bracket and a portion oi the rail. Fig. 9 is a rear elevation of the rail show ing the bracket of Figs. 7 and 8 associated therewith. Fig. 10 is a from. elevation of the rail showing said bracket in cross-section, the section being taken on the line 1010 of Fig. 8. Fig. 11 is a detail horizontal section through the inner end portion shown in Figs. 7 and 8.

The bracket arm is made out of a single piece of shectmetal oi suitable gage or thickness, which is bent upon a longitudinal line to provide what may be termed horizontal and vertical flanges l and 2, which are substantially :at light angles to each other, the flange 1 forming the floor or horizontal supporting braceseries of slots 6 in The flanges 1 and 2, in the preferred embodiment oi the invention, are substantially co eiztensivein length:

The supporting rail 8 is of channel or double-flanged construction, or in other words, said rail 8 is provided with parallel flanges 9 extending backward from its opposite longitudinal edges, as clearly shown in Figs. 1*- and 6, said flanges being adapted to bear against the wall or other vertical support and to hold the body 10 is turned upward to form a terminal. stop h1g4. vThe inner end of the fiangeor a vertically extending supporting rail of the rail at a suitable distance from such wall or sup r port to admit of the insertion and removal of the retaining lug 5 of the bracket arm. The rail 8 is provided with holes 11 at suitable points to receive suitable fess teners for anchoring said rail in place against a wall or other vertical support. The slots 6 correspond in shape to the cross-sectional shape of the retaining lug 5, said slots extending transversely of the face of the rail.8 and 'being elongated horizontally to conform to the retaining lug and to receive said lug when the bracket arm is tilted upward to a considerable angle, said bracket being thereafter lowered or moved downward to a horizontal position, whereupon the retaining lug 5 engages behind the supporting rail and prevents the disengagement ofthe bracket from the rail, as shown in Fig. 2.

By reference to Figs. 7 to 10, inclusive, it Will be seen that one oi the sustaining lugs 12 may he made of angular construction or provided with an inwardly extending lip 15 oi the right size to accurately tit into one of the slots 6 ol the supporting rail, the width of said lip being approximately equal to the length of the slot 6, so that when inserted therein, the lower part oi the extended or widened inner end of the bracketv base will be prevented trom'swinging ormoving laterally, This is not ordinarily necessary, however, as the shape of the retaininglug 5 will prcventsnch swingingof the bracket by reason of the close lit between said retaining lug and the slotted supporting rail. of this invention to provide the extreme inner vertical edge of the flange 2 of the bracket with a small ofi-set lateral extension 16 to project across and bear against the corresponding inner vertical edge of the extension piece 13, said arrangement serving to brace the parts 2 and 13 relatively to each other and thereby adding to the stability of the bracket as a whole. The extension piece 13 may, as above indicated, be entirely omitted and the width of the flange 2 varied to suit. liy em- It is also within the scope v ploying the extension piece 13, however, bracket arms stones of varying lengths may be used in connection therewith Without changing the size, proportions or shape of such extension-piece. The bracket arm may, of course, be made of any desired length, and the general dimensions thereof may be varied without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
Having thus described the invention, I claim:
' 1. A metal bracket comprising a horizontal flange, and a vertical flange extending from one side of said horizontal flange, an upturned lug at the inner end of said horizontal liaure, and laterally extending sustaining lugs formed on the vertical flange, and a supporting rail provided with horizontal slots for engagement. of the up turned lug and providing a bearing face for the laterally extended sustaining lugs.
